New Online ATV Safety Education Course Launched in Oregon

Oregon ATV riders have a new option for obtaining their Oregon ATV Safety Education Card. Beginning March 27th, Oregon residents can get their card by successfully completing ATVcourse.com, an interactive and engaging ATV safety course delivered entirely online.

Developed by Fresh Air Educators and approved by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, ATVcourse.com is fully narrated and includes high-quality animations and illustrations that bring learning to life. Students complete the course at their own pace, on their time, wherever they have access to the Internet. After passing six chapter quizzes and a final exam, students can immediately print a temporary Oregon ATV Safety Card, with a permanent card following by mail. Youth under the age of 16 must also complete additional hands-on training to complete their certification.

Oregon has been phasing in mandatory ATV safety certification since 2009. Currently, all residents 50 years of age and younger are required to carry a valid Oregon ATV Safety Card to legally operate an ATV. By 2014, all ATV riders in Oregon will be required to carry the card.

Talking about the new course, John Lane, ATV Safety Education Coordinator at the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department, said, “This online course will help us meet our commitment of having all ATV riders in Oregon safety certified. We think our residents will appreciate having this great interactive option for getting their ATV Safety Education Card.”

Kerry Moher, VP of Business Development at Fresh Air Educators, added “We are excited about our role as a trusted partner for outdoor education in Oregon. We have also worked with the Oregon State Marine Board to develop a boating safety course and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife for hunter education. Building this new ATV course was a natural fit for Fresh Air.”

Students can register for the course and try Chapter 1 free of charge. To register or try the free study guide, visit: www.atvcourse.com.
