Wildlife Forever Announces Partnership with Robert Bateman’s “Get to Know” Contest

Wildlife Forever is delighted be a core partner of Robert Bateman’s Get to Know Contest along with the US Forest Service, US Fish and Wildlife Service, Wildlife Habitat Council, Association of Zoo and Aquariums, National Park and Recreation Association, Wildlife Habitat Council and Outdoor Afro.  On April 7, 2012, the Get to Know Contest will launch nationally across the United States inviting all American youth (19 and younger) to get outdoors, “get to know” their wild neighbors and submit original works of art.  The contest runs until July 16.

State-Fish Art will be participating at each of the six major Launch Events locations beginning in Seattle on April 7th followed by Los Angeles on the 14th, Anchorage and Altanta on the 21st, Washington DC on the 30th  and Denver on June 9th.  The details about each location, times, celebrities, fun activities and mini-workshops are described RIGHT HERE.  You will definitely want to experience a G2K Lauch Event if one is near you!

The Get to Know Contest, now in its 13th year in Canada, encourages young people to develop a deeper appreciation for their neighbors of other species by getting outdoors and creating art, writing, digital photography, videos and music. The goal of both contests is to engage the power of art to help youth feel more connected with nature. It’s all about making connections with other environmentally passionate youth, using the creative arts to convey their passion, and having their accomplishments celebrated!

“Teaming up with with Get to Know will allow all of us to reach more children and more educators across the U.S. increasing the opportunities for kids to interact with nature through the arts.” said Karen R. Hollingsworth, Manager of the State-Fish Art Program. “We are excited about Get to Know’s dedication to the goal of getting more kids outside and generating the spark of conservation in even more future stewards of our fish and waters.”

The theme of the 2012 Get to Know Contest is “Get to Know Your Wild Neighbours”.  Winners will receive all kinds of wild prizes, including an invitation to the week-long Get to Know Art & Nature Camp supported by Parks Canada, and the chance to have their entry published in the 2013 Get to Know Calendar.  State Fish Art is offering a rod & reel combo and an invitation to the 2013 State-Fish Art EXPO to an entry in each grade category selected from the Rivers, Lakes & Oceans Gallery.
