Never a company to rest on its laurels, over the past several years St. Croix Rod has made significant investments in their industry-leading R&D and manufacturing facilities. Now, with groundbreaking technologies and materials, St. Croix knew it could make the Legend Xtreme even better, which is saying a lot.
For starters, the Legend Xtreme is 33% stronger than previous models, thanks to some high-tech voodoo called Fortified Resin System (FRS). Long story short, St. Croix combines a revolutionary super resin with new high-tech, computer-controlled curing ovens to create perfectly cured blanks every time. Carbon fibers are kept in proper alignment, which means uniformly strong blanks, no weak spots, no microbuckling. They’ve got the electronic microscope read-outs to prove it. How many rod manufacturers can say that?
Likewise, saying goodbye to the error-prone practice of hand-cutting rod blank patterns (still used by most rod manufacturers), the new Legend Xtreme benefits from recently introduced Taper Enhancement Technology (TET). Essentially, a giant computer-controlled machine cuts curved blank patterns with surgical precision. The patterns are then rolled onto Integrated Poly Curve (IPC) mandrels, and the result is better and more uniform actions and maximized sensitivity.
St. Croix has also stepped up to high-modulus/high-strain SCV graphite with carbon-matte scrim for unparalleled strength, durability and sensitivity in the new Legend Xtreme. Plus, they’ve utilized super-high-modulus SCVI graphite in the lower section for maximum hook-setting power and reduced weight.
The family also features best-in-class components like Fuji K-R Concept Tangle Free guides with sloped frames and SiC rings that “shed” tangles before they become a problem. Exclusive E-color finish frames are like the pin-striping on a classic car, creating a rod that looks as good as it fishes. Fuji SK2TM split reel seats are feathery-light and work in tandem with the blank to help anglers detect the slightest bites.
And there’s the handle. Pick up a Legend Xtreme and it instantly becomes an extension of the body. To say it’s ergonomic is an understatement. Second only to having a St. Croix rod surgically attached, the new Xtreme-Skin handle offer anglers a new paradigm of comfort, casting efficiency and sensitivity.

Legend Xtreme rods also feature slim-profile ferrules – and machined-aluminum wind checks, handle trim pieces and butt caps with a St. Croix logo badge. All thread wraps are protected by two coats of Flex Coat slow-cure finish, and the rods come with protective rod sacks. The series includes 17 spinning and 12 casting models that retail between $340 – $420.
