Surveillance Drone Featured in October Issue of American COP

Coverage of new technological advances remains a theme consistent throughout the October issue of American COP – featuring an assessment of the low-maintenance Datron Scout, the utility of AUV technology, and a look at powerful video enhancement software.
The success of drones in military capacities cannot be overlooked, and that technology has now trickled down to law enforcement in the form of the innovative Datron Scout. Having a range of nearly two miles and capable of operating in turbulent conditions, the Scout is both cost-efficient and easy to maintain and operate – much to the admiration of American COP contributing editor Dave Douglas.
“The factory rep had [the Scout] going in about three minutes, and it did exactly what it was advertised to do. It almost silently lifts off, flies the route at the designated altitude, returns to the take-off point and lands,” noted Douglas. “It’s amazingly stable, and just plain fun to watch at work!”

Autonomous Underwater Vehicles (AUVs) are also featured in this issue, showing readers how they can be used in a variety of applications to assist officers. Engineer Rhonda Moniz notes the utility of having a reliable asset like an AUV at the disposal of an agency.
