Anglers can learn proven angling strategies from the first family of pro bass fishing

Whether they fish for fun or for a living, anglers everywhere have relied on magazines, TV shows and the Internet in their search to find ways to catch more (and bigger) fish. The Hibdon’s School of Fishing, which will offer its first course, Fishing 101, October 20-21, offers avid anglers the chance to take their skills where conventional research cannot by capitalizing on a combined century’s worth of angling success by professional bass fishing most decorated family.

With a combined four world championships and millions of dollars in tournament winnings spread across three generations, Guido, Dion and Payden Hibdon bring tremendous expertise to their roles as instructors in the Hibdon’s School of Fishing. Through a blend of private, engaging lectures, round-table classroom environments and personal interaction, the Hibdons break away from the traditional fishing-seminar atmosphere to ensure that students realize their goals of becoming better anglers.

“For years, people have been asking us to teach something like this. They said that there must be something to what we’re doing for there to be so many good fisherman in one family,” said Guido Hibdon, winner of the 1988 Bassmaster Classic and member of the Professional Bass Fishing Hall of Fame, who will teach Fishing 101 alongside his son, Dion, and his grandson, Payden. “People want to know what we do and how we do it. This class is a shortcut to learning the things that have brought us a lot of success over the years, things that will make anyone a better angler.”

In the Hibdon’s School of Fishing – Fishing 101, the Hibdons will focus on preparing for fishing success by teaching students to break down lakes and tidal rivers, study maps, pattern lakes and select tackle/equipment. The course will also teach students how to fish boat docks, aquatic vegetation and cold fronts; how to successfully use soft plastics, winning tournament techniques and an inside look at sponsorships and the business side of bass fishing. The Hibdons will also offer their insight into maximizing on-the-water success with Texas, Carolina and drop-shot rigs.

Hibdon’s School of Fishing – Fishing 101 is a two-day class, which will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 20 and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 21. The course will be taught at the Lake House Inn in Laurie, Mo., near the Hibdons’ home waters on Lake of the Ozarks. Lodging for the event is available at the Lake House Inn as well and other properties in the area. Tuition for the Hibdon’s School of Fishing – Fishing 101 is $500 per student, with special rates available for parents and children enrolling together.

Students of the Hibdon’s School of Fishing will be entered into a drawing for a day of fishing with the instructor of their choice as well as prizes from the Hibdons’ sponsors, Ranger Boats and Evinrude Outboards. Other Hibdon sponsors will also be represented during the course with booths that will allow students to learn more about the products the Hibdons use when fishing.
