Miss Annie Charters 2012: A Year to Remember
OutdoorHub 10.14.12
What a year it’s been! From tournament wins to travelling the east coast and Bahamas in pursuit of the best inshore and offshore fishing in the Atlantic, Miss Annie has had a 2012 to remember and it’s not over yet! But before we look ahead, let’s look back at some of the memorable events aboard Miss Annie this year.
The winter Palm Beach sailfish season was once again one for the record books and Miss Annie had a successful south Florida tournament season. The winter tournament season got off to a great start during the 6th Annual Jupiter Billfish Tournament where Miss Annie caught an amazing 37 sailfish during the two-day event and finished in second place overall. A week later, Miss Annie notched top ten finishes in the 49th Annual Buccaneer Cup and the 9th Annual Florida Fish for Life sailfish tournaments catching 14 and 11 sailfish during these events respectively. Early February found Miss Annie once again on the winner’s podium taking top boat honors at the inaugural Grand Slam Billfish Brawl.
The spring Bahamas Billfish Championship tournament series proved once again to be very successful for Miss Annie. The overall champion in 2010, Miss Annie is a perennial favorite at this prestigious tournament series and 2012 would be no different. The opening Guana Cay Championship saw Miss Annie release three blue marlin and finish in third place. The Harbour Island Championship followed where two blue marlin were released and Miss Annie netted another third place finish. Two weeks later the Marsh Harbour Championship found Miss Annie again in the hunt with two blue marlin and a sailfish release while the season ending Treasure Cay Championship saw the crew release one blue marlin. This impressive showing in the four events netted Miss Annie enough points to finish in second place overall in the season-long series!
The summer months found Miss Annie at her northern home, Sunset Marina in Ocean City, Maryland, where she kept busy with charters in between tournament fishing. The white marlin fishing was again exceptional as double-digit release days were common and several blue marlin were also caught. In between billfish bites our charters kept busy decking lots of yellowfin and big eye tuna, wahoo and mahi mahi. Once again, the tournaments proved to be successful including the White Marlin Open where the crew released 11 white marlin. At the 2012 Mid-Atlantic $500,000, big eye tuna of 224, 195, 185, 165 and 157 pounds gave the crew the Most Points Tuna award while the 224 pounder won the 2nd Heaviest Tuna award.
Fall signals a migration south and Miss Annie is gearing up for another exciting sailfish season from her home port, the beautiful Sailfish Marina on Singer Island in Palm Beach Shores, Florida. After some routine maintenance in early October, Miss Annie will begin charter fishing on October 12 and continue that focus through June 2013. As usual while in Palm Beach from late fall through the winter months, sailfish are our primary target species. South Florida is home to some of the best action you’ll find anywhere in the world with these high-flying acrobats and double-digit release days are not uncommon. Last year’s season saw excellent catches made right through March! Look for bites from mahi mahi, kingfish, wahoo, cobia and sharks to fill the gaps between sailfish bites. Miss Annie is also fully rigged for those seeking to battle one of offshore fishing’s true gladiators which have become increasingly abundant off south Florida – the swordfish.
Our available schedule includes half-day, ¾ day, full-day and overnight trips and we can also custom design a trip to meet your specific needs, species or destination. Miss Annie is also available for single or multi-day trips to West End, Walkers Cay, Bimini and other destinations in the Bahamas where last winter and spring the billfish, wahoo and mahi mahi fishing and deep dropping for bottom species including snapper, grouper and other tasty bottom dwellers was exceptional. We’re available for select tournaments along Florida’s famed Sailfish Alley. We welcome anglers of all experience levels from those new to the sport to seasoned tournament regulars. Corporate charters are also welcome though we are limited to six passengers and we gladly accept all major credit cards.
