Berkley pro Gary Parsons isn’t a stranger to winning big tournaments, but winning one on a prototype bait isn’t something he’s accustomed to. Parsons did just that, claiming the title to the AIM Pro Walleye Series Tournament in Oconto, Wis., this past weekend. Parsons outlasted the field with his winning bag of 137 pounds, 13 ounces. The Berkley pro cashed a $30,000 check for his efforts.
“This was a tough one for me,” said Parsons. “I’ve won a number of events in Green Bay, and I don’t get to fish this every day. I can’t do it without my sponsors. I really don’t fish prototype baits during tournaments, but I had a ton of confidence in this new one from Berkley as I am working so closely with them on its development. It is by far one of the best walleye baits I’ve seen come out in a while. There were several other anglers in the same area we were and they all saw the numbers of fish we were catching compared to every other presentation. I can’t wait to let the cat out of the bag.”
There were three teams utilizing this prototype all of which finished in the top ten – a true testament to the baits potential. As a result, the word is just now getting out about the new Berkley prototype, but don’t run to stores to purchase this mystery, fish-catching bait just yet.
“This win has excited us all as we are obviously onto something amazing,” said Chris Hockley, Berkley Brand Marketing Manager. “Creating innovative new baits that allow pros like Gary to win tournaments is fun. However, our goal is to continue to work with these pros as we strive towards near perfection ensuring everyone has the same fish catching experience. I really think anglers will be shocked with the new bait that is coming down the pipe. It is easy to fish and has the coolest action that makes fish bite. They simply can’t resist.”
