Team Dufrene/ White Wins IFA Redfish Tour Event at Grand Isle, LA

Chad Dufrene, of Purvis, Miss., and Barnie White, of Brewton, Ala., weighed in a two-redfish limit that totaled 16.47 pounds to win the last regular-season event for the Louisiana Division of the IFA Redfish Tour presented by Cabela’s at Grand Isle, La. on Aug. 24. The duo took home a fully-rigged Ranger Banshee Extreme powered by a Yamaha Outboard, valued at $30,000.
After placing third in the Empire, La., event, the two IFA veterans ran 50 miles to fish in the Venice area. With a light rain most of the day the anglers showed some early success throwing popping corks. After landing a few fish, the team spotted the fish close to the surface and switched to Berkley Gulp! shrimp and jerk shads.
“We were not very confident in the fish we had located,” said Dufrene. “Due to the conditions, we changed our game plan and fished closer. We were pleasantly surprised to see the number of fish in our second choice location.”
The team’s 8.46-pound redfish won the team an additional $500 for the Berkley Gulp! Big Fish award.
Second-place finishers Jacob Leininger and Jeff Rogers, both of Slidell, La., brought in 15.75 pounds of redfish to take home $2,053. The anglers fished popping corks and Berkley Gulp! in the Grand Isle area.
Jason LeBlanc, of Marrero, La., and Kory Matherne, of Harvey, La., took home the $1,120 third-place prize for their 15.69 pounds of fish. Despite the bad weather, the team ran to the Venice area and fished Berkley Gulp! baits. The duo added $2,415 in Anglers Advantage cash.
Continuing to draw inshore anglers from Texas to the Carolinas, both IFA Redfish Tours include five different divisions, each with a two-event regular season. With budget-friendly entry fees, the two tours offer opportunities to compete close to home while keeping anglers’ expenses to a minimum.
