“Cop-Sturdy” Technology Leads October Issue of American COP Magazine

The need for rugged and durable technology options for law enforcement is explored in the October issue of American COP. Contributing editor Dave Douglas examines the incentives behind “ruggedized” computers — tested and approved in a variety of situations ranging from vibration resistance to 4-foot drops — and inspects available products.

“When it comes to sensitive electronic equipment that’ll keep you safe; informed, productive and robust solutions are needed,” Douglas insists. “Rugged laptops are designed for the most demanding conditions: they have a mil-std-810F compliance designation and have undergone and passed a test of the signal emission given off by the machine called TEMPEST.”

The October issue also features an inventory of carry options that excel in both utility and style, as Aimee Grant highlights several items for women and men in holsters, purses and bags.

In “Cop-Tech: Brainiac Solutions Abound,” Scott Smith investigates the never-ending high-tech options available to assist in every facet of law enforcement duty.

“Cop-tech is not limited to downloadable materials; there are high-tech gadgets for training, chemical detection, to enhance vision in the worst conditions — and even robots,” Smith explains. “All of this gear will give you more information than was ever thought possible, giving you broader details of an incident and reducing the risks associated with blind entries.”

Other topics explored in this issue of American COP include how the Boston PD used social media to handle the aftermath of the Boston bombing, firearms training for school employees, proper management and utilization of a K9 unit and a profile of the Echo-Sigma Survival Go Bag.

The October Giveaway package features the UTS-15, a 12-guage, pump-action shotgun from UTAS. Valued at over $1,400, the package also includes two items from Hot Shot Tactical — the 900-lumen HS900 Flashlight and the HSKBBS Breacher Bar — and an ISOPOD Medium Fold-up Pouch.
