John and Mark drifted 15 miles downriver from weigh in over river channel using creek chubs in 15 feet of water to catch 10 to 12 fish for the day.
Travis Tullis of Corning, Iowa and Edwin Van Dorn of Des Moines, Iowa took fourth place with a weight of 35.4 pounds and earning $300.00. Travis and Edwin fished the Nebraska City area of the river in 25-30 feet of water anchored down using bullheads and leopard frogs to catch 7-8 fish for the day.
Fifth place went to the 3 generation team of Heath, Thomas Clemons of Cameron, Missouri and Heath D. Clemons of Weatherby, Missouri weighing in 31.55 pounds and earning $200.00. Unfortunately the team had to leave before the interviews were conducted.
“The temperatures were in the high 90’s with high humidity making it a very miserable day for fishing, but the water had risen in the past few days making more ramps accessible and the water color much better”, said Cabela’s King Kat CEO Darrell VanVactor. “The winners outstanding weight came from catching 2 large blue cats that made the big difference with nearly all the other fish weighed in being channel cats and flatheads”, said VanVactor. We wish to thank the Council Bluffs Chamber of Commerce for their support in this event.
