Still Time to Register for 2013 Alabama Youth Dove Hunt

Registration is still open for the annual youth dove hunts sponsored by the Alabama Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries (WFF). Openings are still available for Sept. 21 youth dove hunts in Calhoun, Henry and Escambia counties and for a Sept. 28 hunt in Escambia County. Registration for October hunts in Baldwin, Barbour, Covington, Geneva, Henry, Mobile and Monroe begins on Sept. 20. To register, visit https://youthhunts.dcnr.alabama.gov/dove/.

Online registration is encouraged. However, participants without Internet access may register by calling the WFF district office listed on the hunt schedule or the Montgomery headquarters at 334-242-3469. District office personnel will complete the electronic registration form for you over the phone. Alabama’s youth dove hunting events are staffed by WFF personnel, which encourage a safe, secure environment for both parents and participants. The program also makes use of private lands and fields opened for use by community members, thus fostering good relationships between hunters and private landowners.

To participate in the hunts, youth hunters must be age 15 or younger and accompanied by an adult at least 25 years old (or a parent) who holds a valid state hunting license and a Harvest Information Program (HIP) stamp. Hunters should obtain their license and HIP stamp before the hunt since they will not be available on-site.

Before each hunt, a short welcome session with reminders on hunting safety will be conducted. All hunters are encouraged to wear eye protection and earplugs.

Alabama DCNR

Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) is the state agency responsible for the conservation and management of Alabama's natural resources including state parks, state lands, wildlife and aquatic resources. ADCNR also issues hunting and fishing licenses for the state. The department promotes wise stewardship and enjoyment of the state’s natural resources through five divisions: Marine Police, Marine Resources, State Lands, State Parks and Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries. Supporting those divisions are seven support sections: Accounting, Diversity and Recruiting, Engineering, Information and Education, Information Technology, Legal, and Personnel and Payroll.
