Victory includes fully loaded Ranger Banshee Extreme valued at $30,000

John Weaver, of Driftwood, Texas, and Ryan Weaver, of San Marcos, Texas, weighed in a two-redfish limit that totaled 15.00 pounds to win the last regular-season event for the Texas Division of the IFA Redfish Tour presented by Cabela’s at Aransas Pass, Texas, on Sept. 7. The duo took home a fully-rigged Ranger Banshee Extreme powered by a Yamaha Outboard, valued at $30,000.

The team battled harsh weather conditions on a long ride to their fishing spot, but it paid off. After locating a large school of redfish, the anglers threw four-inch Berkley Gulp! shrimp. The team was able to stay with the school for over four hours.

“We probably caught sixty to eighty fish but only four of them were in the slot,” said John Weaver. “This was one of the best days of fishing we’ve had in a long time and fortunately for us it happened to be on a tournament day.”

Second-place finishers Richard Gidrey, of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Tony Salinas, of Edinburg, Texas, brought in 14.93 pounds of redfish to take home $2,134. Although both anglers have been fishing in the IFA for multiple years this was their first time to place in the top three.

Lou Gonzalez and Albert Gonzalez, both of Corpus Christi, Texas, took home the $1,164 third-place prize for their 14.70 pounds of fish. Despite the bad weather, the team utilized sight-casting techniques with Berkley Gulp!. Both anglers thought the weather adversely affected the fishing but in the end were happy with their performance.

Continuing to draw inshore anglers from Texas to the Carolinas, both IFA Redfish Tours include five different divisions, each with a two-event regular season. With budget-friendly entry fees, the two tours offer opportunities to compete close to home while keeping anglers’ expenses to a minimum.
