National Firearms Interest Sparks Growth in Female NRA Instructors

The National Rifle Association has experienced a significant increase in women seeking to become firearms instructors since 2008 thanks to an increased national interest in the shooting sports. Between 2008 and 2013, the number of female firearms instructors climbed 84% to just over 7,500. By contrast, female instructor growth over the previous five year period was 19%.
“The shooting industry has seen a surge of interest over the past five years, especially among women” said Kyle Weaver, Executive Director of NRA General Operations. “Female firearms instructors are now in high demand for the thousands of women who learn to shoot every year.”
NRA Certified Instructors educate and train more people annually in the safe and proper use of firearms than any other organization in the world. In NRA courses, participants are taught the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and operating firearms. This increase in female firearms instructors has propelled the expansion of NRA’s Women On Target program throughout the United States. This instructional shooting clinic, designed for and led by women, taught basic shooting skills to more than 12,000 women in 2012.
