Bell Plantation to Support SCI Foundation with 20% of Sales

Bell Plantation, Inc. of Tifton, GA has committed to support the Safari Club International Foundation (SCI Foundation) by donating of a portion of sales from their products sold online. Bell Plantation will donate 20% of the sale of the items sold on www.bellplantation.com.  Customers will use a special code (SCIF13) at checkout to direct donations to the SCI Foundation for long range planning of science based conservation programs.

Bell Plantation has created a program for support of nonprofit organizations. The program, called Community Connections 2 is designed to make it easy for organizations to raise money for long range planning.  Beginning September 15th, as part of this ongoing fundraising effort, customers buying Bell Plantation products from the www.bellplantation.com website can enter a special individualized code (SCIF13) specific to the SCI Foundation at checkout and 20% of that sale will be donated to the foundation.

“Our goal is $5 Million dollars in donations to SCI Foundation’s conservation mission through our Community Connections 2 program” says JC Bell, owner of Bell Plantation.  “This is exactly the kind of program that can take root for a company and can be easily spread to every other corporation that is committed to science based conservation. As word begins to get out about what we’re doing here, I expect to see donations begin that will continue for years to come.”

Safari Club International Foundation President Joseph Hosmer commented “As a big game hunter himself, J.C. Bell of Bell Plantation, has witnessed firsthand what the SCI Foundation can accomplish… the global accomplishments of the SCI Foundation will be further strengthened with Bell’s new corporate program.  We see this relationship as mutually beneficial, but with the common beneficiary being wildlife conservation.”

The SCI Foundation predicts the fundraising effort will aid in the long range planning of mission programs of wildlife conservation and management.  The foundation currently funds or manages over sixty wildlife conservation projects globally. North America, Africa and Asia are the core focus of science-based research programs that promote the sustainable-use of wildlife, which in turn ensures the balance and integrity of productive ecosystems. A steady source of income, like the one being proposed by Bell Plantation, that spans multiple years will allow for multi-year projects to be initiated.

Bell Plantation is the maker of PB2 powdered peanut butter.  Designed as low fat, low calorie peanut butter and using an internet sales driven business model, PB2 quickly became one of the premiere products used by athletes and sportsmen.  Further products were developed including a chocolate version of PB2 and PBthins a low calorie peanut butter cracker.

Protecting hunters’ rights and promoting wildlife conservation, SCI’s two areas of focus, historically has been the interest of hundreds of individuals long before SCI was established. But how did SCI as an organization begin?

Forty years ago, there were many safari clubs across the country made up of local, unaffiliated groups of hunters. One such was Safari Club of Los Angeles, which was formed in April 1971 by forty-seven individuals. In early 1972, an out-of-towner from a similar club in Chicago attended one of the monthly Wednesday night meetings, and it was decided that the L.A. club should attempt to combine with the one in Chicago to make it an affiliated chapter. The founder of Safari Club of Los Angeles, C.J. McElroy, went to the Windy City and instituted the new chapter.

Eleven months after the formation of Safari Club of Los Angeles, on March 9, 1972, the name was changed officially to Safari Club International. SCI continued to reach out to other independent safari clubs throughout the United States in an effort to combine them into a single overall organization.

Today, interest in SCI’s two primary missions has grown a worldwide network. Subsequent involvement and promotion of these missions is rooted in each of our 55,000 members, supported through each of our 190 membership chapters found across the globe, and put into action by government representatives and personnel both nationally and internationally.

In this way, we can encourage an appreciation for nature and wildlife so that conservation efforts remain strong, while also fighting to protect our rich hunting heritage. Big changes can be achieved through the endeavors of many who are united in a mission – the mission of Safari Club International.
