This past Saturday September 21st Crappie USA held the final qualifying event for the 2013 season on Kentucky Lake at Paris, Tennessee. Nearly 150 of the top  anglers from 9 states  were competing for not only cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. This year’s classic will also be held on Kentucky Lake at Paris, Tennessee, October 23-26, 2013.

Semi-Pro Division Results

Taking first place was the Trezevant, Tennessee team of Mark and Billy Arnold weighing in 9.85 pounds and earning $1,750.00. Mark and Billy were fishing Crooked Creek using one pole over state beds in 10-14 feet of water using live bait.

Second place went to the Murray, Kentucky team of Sammy Tidwell and Danny Todd with a weight of 8.84 pounds and earning $1,000.00. Sammy and Todd were fishing the main channel in Blood River catching 25-30 fish in 16-22 feet of water spider rigging black/chartreuse Southern Pro jigs over  man-made cover.

In third place was the team of Johnny Clary of Greenbrier, Tennessee and Dwayne Craig of Cottontown, Tennessee weighing in a total of 8.45 pounds and earning $650.00. Johnny and Dwayne were fishing south of the Paris Landing Bridge in 12-14 feet of water tight lining with one pole and glow magnet jigs to catch 50-60 fish for the day.

Terry Elliott of Greenfield, Tennessee and Jeff Elliott of Jackson, Tennessee took fourth place with a weight of 8.28 pound and earning $500.00. Terry and Jeff were fishing in the Big Sandy river, spider rigging using Lake Fork Bluegrass/chartreuse in 12-14 feet of water over  manmade cover to catch 70 fish for the day

Fifth place went to the Puryear, Tennessee team of Steve Ferguson and Teresa Collins with 8.26 pound and earning $400.00. Steve and Teresa were spider rigging with their 14 foot B’n’M Poles with purple/chartreuse Southern Pro on Teezer heads in 14-16 feet of water on the south end of the lake catching 15 fish for the day.

Terry Elliott of Greenfield, Tennessee and Jeff Elliott of Jackson, Tennessee received the Ranger Cup Award and $250.00 in the Semi-Pro Division.

Amateur Division Results

First place in the amateur division was the Murray, Kentucky team of Chris McNeely and Trent Wilson weighing in 9.17 pounds and earning $1200.00. Chris ad Trent were fishing north of the Paris Landing bridge in large bays on both sides of the lake casting over manmade cover in 14-16 feet of water using green/chartreuse Southern Pro jigs to catch a total of 30 for the day.

Second place went to Cody England of White Bluff, Tennessee and Brent Williams of Fairview, Tennessee with 9.16 pound and earning $700.00. Cody and Brent were fishing the south end of the lake in the New Johnsonville area spider rigging in 12-16 feet of water using live bait to catch 15 fish for the day.

Taking third place was Ronald Taylor of Mc Kenzie, Tennessee and Ronald Keel of Cedar Grove, Tennessee with a weight of 8.88 pounds and earning $450.00. Taylor and Keel were fishing the south end of the lake with one pole in 14-18 feet of water tight lining using red/chartreuse Southern Pro jigs tipped with live bait to catch 30 fish for the day.

In fourth was the team of Keith Griffin of Trenton, Tennessee and Brent Smith of Rutherford, Tennessee with 8.75 pound and earning $300.00. Keith and Brent fished both north and south of the bridge in 17-20 feet of water using one pole with live bait to catch 20 fish for the day.

Fifth place went to the team of Hunter Dowdy of Humboldt, Tennessee and Brently Smith of Rutherford, Tennessee weighing in 8.59 pounds and earning $250.00. Hunter and Brently were fishing the south end of Kentucky Lake in 12-15 feet of water spider rigging with live bait to catch 30 fish for the day.

McCord, DeWayne, Robert and Reed McCord received the Ranger Cup Award and $125.00 in the Amateur Division.

Big Fish Award

Taking big fish of the event was the team of Cody England of White Bluff, Tennessee and Brent Williams of Fairview, Tennessee with a 2.11 pound crappie.

Crappie USA Free Kids Fishing Rodeo

In conjunction with the tournament Crappie USA held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event and several catching double figures of fish. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$1,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic.

Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $316,000.00 to the “Crappie Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Crappie USA “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.

A special thanks goes out to David Hamilton and the crew at TRRA and the Paris Chamber of Commerce for making the event a success.

  • Weather-Temperatures in the 70’s with winds 10-15 MPH out of the north causing teams to stay in the bays.
