Utah Bull Elk Permits Are Still Available

Bull elk rifle hunt starts Oct. 5

Permits to hunt bull elk in Utah this fall are almost gone.

On the morning of Sept. 26, the following general elk permits were still available:

Unit                             Permits available
Any bull                       2,946
Spike only                   3,851

The general rifle bull elk hunt starts Oct. 5.  If you’d like to participate in the rifle hunt, or the general muzzleloader hunt that starts Oct. 30, you need to get a permit soon.

“There’s a good chance the permits will sell out before the rifle hunt starts,” says Judi Tutorow, wildlife licensing coordinator for the Division of Wildlife Resources.  “If you want a permit, don’t wait.  Get one now.”

You can buy a permit at www.wildlife.utah.gov.  Permits are also available at DWR offices and from more than 300 hunting license agents across Utah.

More information about Utah’s general bull elk hunts is available on pages 16 – 19 of the 2013 Utah Big Game Field Regulations Guidebook.  The free guidebook is available at www.wildlife.utah.gov/guidebooks.

If you have questions about getting a general bull elk permit, call the nearest Division of Wildlife Resources office or the DWR’s Salt Lake City office at 801-538-4700.
