The October edition of Shooting Industry magazine features a detailed review of the 2013 Shooting Industry Masters, FMG Publications’ 11th annual record-breaking, money-raising event held July 19-20.
Sporting a classic “Old West” theme, the Masters “industry reunion” was held at the Cody Shooting Complex, in Cody, Wy. The enthusiastic teams and individual participants helped raise a record $81,250 for the shooting sports.
“This is the one time a year when we can come together as friends, as an industry, and shoot. We can leave the business at the shop and get some fresh air. For all these guys normally in suits and ties it’s fun, it’s unique,” said Stephanie Pastusek, XS Sights marketing director.
Even though the Shooting Industry Masters is a “just for fun” event and scores are not published, the top shooters in both the open and industry class are honored in the 2013 Masters recap.
Also highlighted in the October issue is Greg Staunton’s dissection of an NSSF report on the recent influx of handgun buyers, complete with statistics and profiles of new gun owners.
“Many of the vast number of customers who converged on gun shops in recent years are first-time gun buyers, and the majority of these newly minted firearm consumers initially purchased handguns,” explains Staunton. “Dealers can profit from additional training by offering a variety of classes and workshops for new handgun owners, with safety instruction as the top priority.”
The October issue also features a guide to tapping into the bowhunting market, a look at the latest and greatest knives on the market and the profit potential in hosting Ladies Night events.
