Annual HD film tour completes seventh year, continues to break boundaries

After nearly nine months and over 150 shows the 2013 Fly Fishing Film Tour is coming to a close. With attendance up nearly 30% over 2012, and more than 160 fly shop partners on board, The F3T was able to provide more than $250,000 to conservation groups and included filmmakers, further solidifying their position as the preeminent event in the fly fishing film world

“It’s been one heck of a ride,” says The F3T co-owner Doug Powell. “It’s an awesome feeling to know that we reached nearly 50,000 people across 45 states and multiple countries. It’s a testament to the passion of our devoted fans and ability to attract those new to the sport.

With such a significant scope, dedicated following and market penetration, The F3T is the largest event of its kind, and one of the broadest reaching entertainment and marketing outlets in the fly fishing industry. Coinciding with The F3T’s impressive attendance and participation was their increased contribution of much-needed financial support to critical industry advocacy groups and filmmakers.

This year The F3T awarded $25,000 to included filmmakers and helped causes related to the sport raise over $250,000. “Conservation groups do much of the heavy lifting when it comes to preserving our fisheries,” says Powell. “And without the increasing talent of our filmmaker’s we’d be out of a job. Both groups are invaluable in drawing eyes toward watersheds, species and issues that need attention. We’re constantly working to assist them as much as we can.”

Now, just as one tour comes to an end, The F3T team is ramping back up and prepping for the next round.

“It’s a never-ending cycle. We’re definitely fired up for 2014,” said Ryan Thompson, The F3T’s tour manager. “We’ve started checking out submissions and we’re finalizing our show dates as we speak. This year we’ll add some additional cities and shows and, as always, we’re working to improve the overall fan experience at every show.”

The 2014 tour will kick off in mid-January. Tour dates, film trailers, ticket on-sale dates and other details will be announced in the coming months on their website (www.TheF3T.com) and Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/FlyFishingFilmTour).
