Free Youth Fishing Event at County of Los Angeles DPR Facility

Children ages 5-15 are invited to participate in a free youth fishing event at Legg Lake in the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area, a County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation facility located at 751 South Santa Anita Ave. South El Monte, CA 91733, on Saturday, October 26, 2013. The lake will be stocked with over a thousand pounds of catfish for this event. All fishing tools needed will be free for the kids.

This activity is designed to give boys and girls who live in urban areas an opportunity to enjoy a fishing experience in or close to their own neighborhood, with poles, reels, tackle, bait and assistance provided. Event day onsite registration will begin at 8:00 a.m.; the fishing session will go from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, followed by a congratulatory ceremony and drawing.

Youth ages 16 or older can fish at the end of the event, but they must have a California State Fishing License.

Montebello Police Department is co-sponsoring the derby with the Daniel Hernandez Youth Foundation, The County of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and other partners expected to participate.
