OWAA Enhances Benefits to Supporting Businesses, Groups

The Outdoor Writers Association of America is improving the ability of OWAA supporting groups, agencies and businesses to utilize the wide range of services and benefits available to them through their affiliation with the nation’s largest professional outdoor communicators group.

The OWAA board of directors last month voted to establish the Supporter Relations Committee and appoint a dedicated “supporter liaison” to reach out to OWAA supporters and represent their interests to the OWAA board and executive director. Katie McKalip, director of media relations for OWAA supporter Theodore Roosevelt Conservation Partnership and an OWAA individual member, was elected by the OWAA board to serve in this capacity.

“OWAA supporters – businesses, agencies and groups that join the Outdoor Writers Association of America – want to build relationships with members of the outdoors press and make the most out of their investment in the OWAA,” said McKalip, a former OWAA board member.

“As OWAA supporter liaison, I’m gratified to be able to work with supporters to take advantage of benefits available to them, serve as a sounding board and help them cultivate productive and mutually rewarding relations with OWAA members.”

OWAA supporters, numbering 180 and growing, include outdoor product manufacturers, conservation organizations, shooting sports companies, destination marketing and tourism groups, public relations firms, state and federal agencies, outdoor publications and more.

Core benefits for OWAA supporting affiliation include:

  • Unequaled access to the OWAA membership;
  • Listing and advertising opportunities in OWAA’s annual directory;
  • Use of the OWAA mailing list to directly connect with the association’s membership;
  • A subscription to Outdoors Unlimited, OWAA’s trade publication;
  • Features in the Outdoor Alerts news feed and print and online versions of OU;
  • An invitation to attend and discounted pricing for the OWAA annual conference and meet face to face with OWAA members and other conference attendees.

“OWAA supporters enjoy opportunities for networking with writers, broadcasters, photographers, lecturers and others in the outdoor media that are second to none,” said OWAA Executive Director Tom Sadler.

“Our headquarters staff and board members are dedicated to ensuring that our supporters stand to gain from their affiliation with our group. Expanding the suite of benefits available to them and offering them an advocate in the form of our supporter liaison who solely focuses on these duties within OWAA is one way we can demonstrate our commitment to their needs and priorities.”

The OWAA annual conference is a standout opportunity for supporters to leverage the benefits of their affiliation with the communicators group. The OWAA’s 87th annual conference will be May 23-25, 2014, in McAllen, Texas.
