Arkansas Hunt Ends with 34 Elk Taken on Public and Private Land

The 16th Arkansas elk hunt ended Friday, Nov. 1, with hunters taking a total of 34 of the big game animals in Buffalo River country.

The count was 13 on public land out of 20 hunters with permits in action. On private land, where there was a quota of 28 elk, 21 were checked by hunters. The bull quota of eight was filled.

Weather conditions were generally favorable for the hunt, the first in late October. Previous years have had the second hunt segment in early December.

The largest elk were a 6×8 bull taken by Linda Garrett and a 6×7 bull taken by Cody Cardon, both on private land.
