The Isle of Man’s David Knight was the 2005 and 2007 EnduroCross Champion and with the support of Sherco Offroad US, will return to Las Vegas to compete in the GEICO AMA EnduroCross Finals, fueled by Monster Energy on Saturday, November 23rd. The last time Knight competed in an AMA EnduroCross was the 2007 Las Vegas finals and although he clinched the championship that night, he was somewhat overshadowed by an EnduroCross first timer named Taddy Blazusiak.
Blazusiak was Knight’s recently hired KTM teammate and was not expected to get in the way of Knight winning the race and a $50,000 bonus that was on the line if he could win the third of three GEICO Triple Crown events that season. But Blazusiak was there to win and he made a few bold pass attempts before finally working his way past Knight to take the win. A visibly stunned Knight finished second and then launched his bike off an obstacle in frustration.
Knight refocused his attention to other championships, including the Enduro World Championship for the last several years but he is looking forward to a return to Las Vegas and had this to say: “Going back to Las Vegas to race in a round of the EnduroCross championship is something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. Now, with the support of Sherco Offroad US, that’s possible. I have so many great memories from my time racing EnduroCross. Competing in the FIM SuperEnduro series, which will start one week before the Vegas race, is important to both myself and Sherco, so racing the final EnduroCross will really help with that. I don’t have any great expectations, but I’ve always enjoyed racing in Vegas and always done well there – the last time I wrapped up an EnduroCross title. It’s always competitive racing, so I’ll be doing all I can go get a winning result for Sherco.”
Knight will be hopping into the middle of the most intense championship battle the series has witnessed to date. Mike Brown and Taddy Blazusiak are tied on points going into the Las Vegas finals so the pressure will be on those two riders to beat the other. And Knight will be looking steal the spotlight by taking the win for himself.
