December 17 Screening to Benefit Trout Unlimited

ArtsQuest and the Lehigh Valley’s Trout Unlimited chapters are partnering to raise funds for streamside habitat improvement through a charitable screening of “Kiss the Water” at the ArtsQuest Center. The film, which portrays the life of Megan Boyd, a Scot famous for her Atlantic salmon flies, will be shown in the ArtsQuest Center’s Frank Banko Alehouse Cinemas, 101 Founders Way, Bethlehem, Pa., on Dec. 17, 7:15 p.m.

Tickets for Kiss the Water are $10 for the public; $8 for ages 60 and older and 12 and under; and $7.50 for ArtsQuest Members. A portion of each ticket sold will be donated to TU’s four Lehigh Valley chapters – the Forks of the Delaware, Hokendauqua, Monocacy and Little Lehigh chapters – to be used for a tree planting or other streamside habitat improvement project in 2014. Guests are invited to arrive at the cinemas starting at 6 p.m. to see fly tying demonstrations by Trout Unlimited members, talk with fellow fly anglers and enjoy beverages from the ArtsQuest Center’s Mike & Ike Bistro (beverages not included with ticket price).

“Trout Unlimited is thrilled to be able to partner with ArtsQuest to bring this acclaimed film to the Lehigh Valley to benefit habitat on our local trout streams,” says Pennsylvania Council of Trout Unlimited President Brian Wagner. “When nonprofits partner together, it’s really a win-win for everyone involved.”

Kiss the Water, by filmmaker Eric Steel of the acclaimed documentary “The Bridge,” focuses on the life of Megan Boyd, a self-taught fly-maker who became an internationally renowned artisan and supplier to, among others, Prince Charles. In turn, Boyd’s flies have been collected as folk art pieces or, when used in the way Boyd intended, revered as some of the best salmon flies fishermen have ever cast.

Interviews with Boyd’s colorful friends and acquaintances, as well as animations by Em Cooper and views of the Scottish countryside, provide a meditative reflection on Boyd’s unlikely place in history. Kiss the Water was a 2013 Official Selection at the Tribeca Film Festival, Edinburgh International Film Festival, Woods Hole Film Festival, Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival and Vancouver International Film Festival.
