South Dakota Youth Goose Hunt to Be Held Jan. 3-5

The 24th annual Central South Dakota Youth Goose Hunt will be held in Pierre Jan. 3-5.

The hunt, which is free to youth hunters ages 12-15, will begin at the Pierre Ramkota at 7 p.m. on Friday night with a mandatory information meeting. Hunters will be assigned their guides for the weekend and given instructions for the following morning hunt.

Following their Saturday hunt, participants will have the chance to attend seminars on goose calling and decoy placement, and will be eligible for several prizes.

“This hunt is a great way for kids to get involved in waterfowl hunting,” said Sam Koenecke, a past participant in the Youth Hunt, and now one of the event coordinators. “We want kids of all experience levels to come out and see what goose hunting is all about, get some hands on training and hopefully become the future of waterfowling”.
