USAMU Shooters Infiltrate 3-Gun Nation Pro Series

Three U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit (USAMU) Soldiers and an Army spouse officially joined their USAMU teammates on the 3-Gun Nation Series Pro Tour for 2014 after impressive performances at the 3-Gun Nation Pro Series Qualifier Feb. 15-16 at the U.S. Shooting Academy (USAA) in Tulsa, Okla.
Leading the way was Sgt. Matthew Sweeney, who won the match only a few weeks after completing the Warrior Leader Course. Coming in closely behind Sweeney was Sgt. Shane Coley, placing third overall. Capt. Ryan Calhoon finished in 14th place, also earning a spot on the tour. Stephanie Payne, wife of USAMU shooter Sgt. Tyler Payne, finished fourth amongst females to earn a place on the Ladies Pro Tour.
The four rookies join three-time series national champion Staff Sgt. Daniel Horner, Staff Sgt. Joel Tuner and Sgt. Payne on the Pro Series Tour..
The 2014 3-Gun Nation series opener is scheduled for March 15 at USSA in Oklahoma. A total of four events are held before the season-ending series championship in October.
USAMU is part of the U.S. Army Accessions Brigade, Army Marketing and Research Group and is tasked with enhancing the Army’s recruiting effort, raising the standard of Army marksmanship and furthering small arms research and development to enhance the Army’s overall combat readiness.
