It was an exciting day for Team Grizzly at this year’s Berger Southwest Long Range Nationals February 4-9. The team set a new US national record in the F-Open Division with a score of 1786 with 104 Xs, which beat the previous record by five points.
“We were in a bit of a state of disbelief. We were simply concentrating on winning the match and were unaware we set a new record until someone brought it to our attention,” says Shiraz Balolia of Team Grizzly.
According to Team Grizzly, the team’s Kowa High Lander binoculars made a huge impact on the outcome of the competition. Kowa’s High Lander PROMINAR model features Pure Fluorite Crystal multicoated lenses which provides precise color definition for a sharper image. With two 82mm objective lenses, the excellent light gathering capabilities made the High Lander the perfect spotter for Team Grizzly.
“The double eyepiece design is better than the single eyepiece normally found on spotting scopes,” says Balolia. “In addition the model we have uses fluorite crystal lenses which helped our coach read the mirage well and see tiny changes.”
When asked what the team plans to do now that they have secured the new record, Balolia stated they plan to continue honing their skills and will compete in most major matches in hopes of breaking their own record.
