Crappie USA Announces Results for 2014 Tournament at Fulton Pool/Bay Springs in Fulton, Mississippi

This past Saturday March 1st Crappie USA held a qualifying event on the Fulton Pool/Bay Springs at Fulton, Mississippi. Anglers from several different states were competing for not only cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. This year’s classic will be held on Lake Cumberland at Somerset, Kentucky October 16th-18th, 2014.
Semi-Pro Division Results
Taking first place was the team of Roy Capes Jr of Cordele, Georgia and Robert Harris of Warner Robbins, Georgia with a total weight of 9.85 pounds and earning $1,000.00. Roy and Robert were fishing the upper end of Bay Springs working the main river ledge in deep pockets 20-28 feet deep with their fish suspended 18 feet deep. The team caught a total of 20 fish all by 11:30 long line trolling. Teams may catch as many crappie as legally possible, but can only weigh in their top 7 fish at the end of the day.
Second place went to the team of Mark Morris of Campbellsburg, Kentucky and Keith Morris of New Castle, Kentucky weighing in 9.82 pounds and earning $600.00. Mark and Keith were spider rigging Ashcraft Holler in 20 feet of using Southern Pro Wide Cap jigs and hot grubs tipped with minnows catching their fish suspended 16 feet deep.
In third place was the Wingo, Kentucky team of Dwayne and Reed McCord with 7.43 pounds and earning $400.00. The McCord’s were fishing the Jacksontown area in 25 feet of water catching their fish on bottom by spider rigging black/chartreuse jigs tipped with Stubby Steve’s to catch 30 fish for the day.
Amateur Division Results
First place in the amateur division went to the team of Blake Pounds of Booneville, Mississippi and Michael Taylor of New Site, Mississippi with a weight of 9 pounds and earning $500.00. Blake and Michael were casting jigs in the Ashcraft Holler in 5-8 feet of water using Southern Pro Hot Grubs to catch 20-25 fish for the day. The team added that they never caught a fish until the sun came out about 11:00am.
Second place went to Heath Strickland of Guntown, Mississippi and Kenneth Johnson of Fulton, Mississippi weighing in 8.13 pounds and earning $300.00. Heath and Kenneth were fishing the main mouth of Ashcraft slow trolling double minnow rigs to catch 8 fish for the day.
Taking third place was the team of Ronald Barker of Eubank, Kentucky and Donald Doby of Yazoo City, Mississippi with 8.04 pounds and earning $200.00. Ronald and Donald were slow trolling Southern Pro jigs and minnows in 18 feet of water catching 12 fish for the day.
Big Fish of the event went to the team of Mark Morris of Campbellsburg, Kentucky and Keith Morris of New Castle, Kentucky weighing in a 2.19 pound crappie and earning $119.00.

Crappie USA Free Kids Fishing Rodeo
In conjunction with the tournament Crappie USA held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event.. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$1,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic.
Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $322,000.00 to the “Crappie Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Crappie USA “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.
A special thanks goes out to the City of Fulton and Mayor Lynette Weatherford and Park Director Mickey Russell for all their help with the tournament and with the Kids Rodeo Also thanks to the Corp of Engineers for their help with the Seminar.
