On the Homestead with Self Reliance Illustrated’s Latest Issue

Issue 19 of Self Reliance Illustrated is the annual homesteading issue. This is the publication’s third homesteading issue; see Issue 7 and 13 for the other two. One of the great things about the homesteading issue are the different levels of homesteading the articles can be applied to. From someone who has dreams of homesteading, to someone who has been doing it for a while, everyone can benefit from the information included in Issue 19.

Isn’t homesteading one of those daydreaming fantasies we all have? Oh, how nice it would be to have a lot of land and be self-sufficient. To raise crops and livestock while keeping a well-stocked pantry full of food you hunted, fished, foraged, or made. Whether or not you are there yet, there is a great deal of information included you will find useful.

Each homesteading issue readers will find a What’s in my Pantry article. This issue that was contributed by Tammy Trayer. She and her family live off grid in a homestead. She gives a fascinating look inside her pantry. Trayer also shares how she and her family butcher chickens for food.  Speaking of food, you will find articles on processing your deer, making wine, acorns, and making pesto.

There are several product reviews in this issue. You will find reviews on grain mills, Hydroflask bottles, Olight flashlights, a Grillo tractor, and more. Tips and tricks are featured that could be used around the home as well as homestead. Many of these items and ideas can of course be taken out into the field as well.
