Coming off a record breaking February deer auction, the Texas Deer Association traveled to Arlington, Texas carrying the momentum of the previous month’s success. Little did they know that they would set another record grossing nearly $1.1 million in deer sales over 105 lots, a new March auction high for the association.
Despite having 20 lots less than the norm, the final tally revealed the sale had grossed almost $200,000 more than the previous year’s deer auction. The new record was obtained with the support of new buyers and a substantial number of online buyers. In addition to a record setting sale, the March auction witnessed its highest grossing lot, a whitetail doe sold by Gonzales Whitetails to DaVine Genetics for $80,000.
“We’re very pleased with the final results of TDA’s March Superior Genetics Deer Auction and the fact that the association was able to set two new records within 45 days,” stated Vance Runnels, TDA Auction Manager. “The back to back records show that the demand for quality deer genetics is very high and continues to grow. It is obvious that there is strong support for the deer industry and one’s ability to manage their deer herds and ranches in efforts to increase the quality of their whitetail genetics.”
TDA’s March Gala also serves the purpose of bringing members together, exposing other deer enthusiasts to the industry, and raising funds in support of the association’s PAC fund. Karl Kinsel, TDA’s Executive Director commented, “Our Friday night banquet and PAC auction was about bringing the deer industry together and showing support for what we do and those passionate about whitetail deer. The fact that $143,000 was raised for the TDA PAC in one evening speaks volumes to the amount of support there is for the deer industry and the underlying principles TDA stands for.”
In addition to the deer and PAC auctions, the Arlington Convention Center was host to TDA’s Annual March Spring Gala. The two-day event featured deer industry exhibitors, activities for kids, live auctions, Friday night banquet, and a poker tournament. The March deer auction is the last leading up to the association’s annual convention and fundraiser to be held in August at the JW Marriot Resort & Spa in San Antonio, Texas.
