This Week, Gun Guy Radio Welcomes Iain Harrison
OutdoorHub 04.07.14
Iain Harrison, the current editor of Recoil Magazine, and also of Top Shot and Outdoor Channel fame, joins Jake Challand for episode 113 of Gun Guy Radio. Iain is a native Brit, but has gained notoriety in the United States as a shooting expert. Interestingly, even when living in the United Kingdom he had a penchant for firearms – he shot his first .22LR rifle as a child before going on to join the military. Shortly after he left the English armed forces England instituted a ban on all handguns. It was then that Iain decided to move to the United States permanently. Iain is now a United States citizen.
Iain has experience in competition with all types of firearms having competed in IPSC as well as the shotgun and rifle disciplines. But after working in the construction industry in New York and California he submitted an application for the ultimate gun competition – The History Channel’s Top Shot. Iain won Season One of Top Shot and parlayed that into a career in the firearms industry.
At Recoil Magazine, which is currently a bi-monthly magazine, he has developed a model whereby the expenses are all paid by the subscribers and not the advertisers. This allows the editorial content of the magazine to be completely independent. As Iain explains this is the basis for the expense of the magazine. “That is the reason why it has a $9 cover price. And we do draw some criticism for charging that amount, but that’s the reason why. It is the end user, the guy that is actually reading the magazine, that is our client.”
The Brownell’s Product Spotlight focuses on the Sinclair Micro Adjust Bullet Seaters. This bullet seater allows precision reloaders to adjust the seating depth of the bullet in .0005 inch increments. The Micro Adjust Bullet Seater is used in connection with the Sinclair Arbor Press. This bullet seater is very easy to use. The cartridge, with the bullet already set in the top, is simply placed completely inside the bullet seater and the bullet is then pressed in with the Arbor press. As Paul Levy points out, “It’s all stainless steel: stainless steel construction and stainless steel bearings. There aren’t any plastic parts in this. It’s a pretty robust piece.” This is a component that any competitor or precision shooter will appreciate and it comes in all common competition and hunting calibers.
