Stage Set for High-octane Junior Racing in 2014 with KTM Machinery

KTM, the company that lives by its “Ready to Race” motto has now extended its support to the next generation of road racing stars to embrace both the well established Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup and ADAC Junior Cup Powered by KTM.

Some 24 riders from 12 nations contest the Red Bull Rookies MotoGP Cup in 2014 in a compact 14-round season run parallel to selected MotoGP events. Twelve new riders were added to the existing field at a selection event at Monteblanco, Spain in October 2013.

The Rookies Cup competition began in 2007 and is a proven stepping-stone for young riders looking for a career in MotoGP. A number have already made the successful transition to the senior categories, including 2013 Cup Champion Karel Hanika of the Czech Republic, who was inducted straight into the Red Bull KTM Ajo factory team in 2014.

At the pre season tests for the competition in Spain’s Motorland Aragon Jorge Martin, now in his third season, was the man to beat, followed by countryman Joan Mir and Italian Manuel Pagliani. Red Bull Rookies moved up to the Moto3 specification KTM RC 250 R 4-stroke in 2013, a bike that mirrors the KTM Moto3 machinery.

KTM now also extends its support for tomorrow’s road racing champions through a partnership with ADAC, Germany’s biggest auto club. The 8-round competition includes seven in conjunction with the international German Championship (IDM) and one parallel to the MotoGP of Germany at the Sachsenring. Riders will contest two 25-minute qualifying sessions and a race and the top three at the end of the season are guaranteed a place in the Red Bull Rookie selections.

The ADAC Junior Cup Powered by KTM went to the Magione Circuit in Italy on
April 14 for pre-season tests with 26 boys and one girl on the grid and all received coaching on all elements of racing from series experts, proven IDM Superbike racers and former ADAC graduates, Dario Giuseppetti and Michael Ranseder. They compete on the RC390 4-stroke Cup machine, which is also fitted with a host of KTM PowerParts to make it more single-minded and focused.
