Attaway Wins Walmart Bass Fishing League South Carolina Division Event on Clarks Hill Lake

Norm Attaway of Clearwater, S.C., weighed a five-bass limit totaling 20 pounds, 12 ounces Saturday to win the second Walmart Bass Fishing League South Carolina Division tournament of 2014 on Clarks Hill Lake. For his victory, Attaway earned $2,846.

“Clarks Hill is my home lake, and I made my game plan based on the fact that there was also a big team tournament going on as well as the BFL,” said Attaway. “I didn’t practice at all and just planned to fish the hidden points and high spots that I knew about.

“I started right outside of the Dorn Fishing Facility and fished almost all the way down to the dam. I probably caught over 30 fish and had two fish on at the same time, three different times

“I had a good feeling about it, but I know how it goes,” Attayaw said about his return to the marina. “This time of year there are a lot of bass keying on the blueback herring spawn, and someone could have gotten lucky and caught 26 pounds off of one spot if they hit it right.”

Attaway said that he caught some fish on a Zoom Super Fluke, but that his five keepers came on a translucent Heddon Zara Spook.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and compete to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. The 2014 BFL All-American is being held June 5-7 on Wilson Lake in Florence, Ala. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
