Florida’s Triple Crown Billfish Tournament Gets Underway May 15

The inaugural “Florida West Coast Triple Crown Billfish Series” will be held this spring / summer 2014.

The series will kick off on May 15th -18th with the Sam Crosthwait Memorial Tournament. The Crosthwait has agreed to expand their divisions to include a new open billfish division. The tournament will be based out of the Bradenton Yacht Club in Palmetto Florida.

The second leg will be the Yellowfin Billfish Classic. This event will be held July 22nd to the 26th and will be held in Sarasota.

The Loop will be the final leg of the series and will be held on August 19th to the 23rd. The longest running Florida west coast billfish tournament (40+ years) is the Old Salt Loop Tournament.The Loop tournament will be held out of Marine Max, St. Petersburg.

Emphasis will be put on blue marlin releases in these tournaments. However, white marlin, sailfish and spearfish will also count towards point totals. Each tournament will have meat fish/fun fish categories as well. Swordfish, tuna, dolphin and wahoo will have their own separate divisions, but will not count towards tournament winners or the overall series winner.

As usual each tournament will have their cash payouts and/or beautiful trophies to had out to the winners. The overall series winner will also receive an additional cash payout, trophies and other awards.
