Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Presents Results for Morgantown, WV

This past Saturday May 17, 2014 the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the . Monongahela River at Morgantown, West Virginia. In the event the top anglers from 6 different states were competing not only for cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2014 Cabela’s King Kat East and West Championship. This year’s West Championship will be held September 19 & 20, 2014 on the Mississippi and Rock Rivers at Quad Cities, Iowa. The East Championship will be held October 3 & 4, 2014 on Lake Wateree at Camden, South Carolina. Be sure to check out our website at: www.kingkatusa.com. Results for the Top 5 Teams

Taking first place was the team of Brian Thomas of Travelers Rest, South Carolina and Jimmy Thomas Jr. of Kincaid, West Virginia weighing in 49.62 pounds and earning $3,000.00. Brian and Jimmy were fishing near the Power Plant anchored down in 20-30 feet of water using bluegill and skipjack to catch 10 fish for the day, which included Big Fish of the event at 19.16 pounds and earning and additional $460.00.

In second place was the Arcanum, Ohio team of Don and Ethin Hoffman with 47.74 pounds and earning $1,500.00. Don and Ethin were fishing close to the Hazel Ruby McQuain Riverfront Park anchored down in 12-13 feet of water using skipjack to catch around 9 fish for the day.  The team had caught a nice kicker fish in the first couple of hours weighing 18.24 pounds which give the team hopes of winner the event today.

Third place went to the Frankfort, Ohio team of Willie Smith and Nick Anderson weighing in 42.72 pounds and earning $500.00. Willie and Nick were fishing 4-5 miles downstream from the park anchored down in 12-14 feet of water using bluegill and shad to catch 25 fish for the day.

James and Karen Pauley of Letart, West Virginia took fourth place with a weight of 41.34 pounds. James and Karen anchored downstream of the park in 20-25 feet of water using skipjack to catch all their fish for the day. Karen said jokingly, “James talked the fish into the boat”.

Fifth place went to John and Carl Campbell of Chillicothe, Ohio weighing in and even 37 pounds.

Cabela’s King Kat Free Kids Fishing Rodeo

In conjunction with the tournament Cabela’s King Kat held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$1,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic this fall.

Cabela’s King Kat, Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $322,000.00 to the “Outdoor Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Cabela’s King Kat, “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.
