Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Results for the Rock River 2-Day Super Event at Dixon, Illinois

Dyer and Dippel Repeat 2013 Performance By Winning Rock River Super Event

This past Friday and Saturday June 6th and 7th, 2014 the Cabela’s King Kat Tournament Trail hit the waters of the Rock River at Dixon, Illinois for the 2-day Super Event. In the event well over 100 of the top anglers in the region were competing not only for the $12,900.00 in cash and prizes, but the opportunity to qualify for the 2014 Cabela’s King Kat East and West Championship. This year’s West Championship will be held September 19 & 20, 2014 on the Mississippi and Rock Rivers at Quad Cities, Iowa. The East Championship will be held October 3 & 4, 2014 on Lake Wateree at Camden, South Carolina. Be sure to check out our website at: www.kingkatusa.com. Results for the Top 5 Teams

Taking first place was the 2013 winners Joe Dyer of Rock Falls, Illinois and Dan Dippel of Ottawa, Illinois with a 2-day total weight of 72.5 pounds and earning $4,500.00. Joe and Dan were fishing south towards Moline, Illinois, in 6-9 feet of water around under water trees. Team was anchored using live bluegill to catch 15 fish for both days.

In second place was Brock Law of Rock Falls, Illinois and Aaron Schrader of Sterling, Illinois with a weight 70.52 pounds and earning $2,200.00. Brock and Aaron were fishing the Castle Rock area of the Rock River, anchored in 5-10 feet of water using bluegill for bait. The team caught a lot of fish both days but said there were a lot of small fish.

Third place went to Dustin Westbrook of Rock Falls, Illinois and Phil Westbrook of Dixon, Illinois with 65.9 pounds and earning $1,200.00. Dustin and Phil were fishing  south of the Dixon area anchored in 6-12 feet of water. The team caught 6 for the day and were using big blue gill which caught the Big Kat of the Tournament (Flathead) weighing 25.20 pounds.

Stan Bennett of Kingston, Illinois and John Rudecki of Stillman Valley, Illinois took fourth place with a weight of 65.9 pounds and earning $500.00. Stan and John fished the Castle Rock area as well anchored in 6-12 feet of water  using cut shad to catch 35 fish for the tournament.

Fifth place went to the Sterling, Illinois team of Tom and Clint Walker with a weight of 51.42 pounds and earning $500.00. Tom and Clint fished the Rock Falls area using bluegill in around 10 feet of water. Team caught 10 fish during the tournament.

Cabela’s King Kat Free Kids Fishing Rodeo

In conjunction with the tournament Cabela’s King Kat held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$1,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic this fall.

Cabela’s King Kat, Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $322,000.00 to the “Outdoor Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Cabela’s King Kat, “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.

Special thanks to all our local sponsors for making the event possible, Dixon Tourism,  Ace Hardware, KSB Hospital and Comfort Inn for making the event a huge success.
