Team Jewett/ Jacobson Wins IFA Redfish Tour Event at Jacksonville, FL

Rusty Jewett, of Clearwater, Florida, and Timothy Jacobson, of Ocala, Florida, weighed a two-redfish limit that totaled 12.83 pounds to win the final regular-season event for the Florida East Division of the IFA Redfish Tour presented by Cabela’s on June 21 at Jacksonville, Florida.
The team regularly fishes their home waters of Tampa in western Florida but headed to the eastern waters off of Jacksonville where the tides are higher and the water is stained.
“You have to have the timing down to catch redfish on the east coast,” said Jewett. “The bite didn’t start until noon at the low end of the tide change. From noon to two o’clock we caught about 15 fish with a two-pound upgrade right around two.”
The late upgrade was enough to push the anglers into first place and their first IFA Redfish Tour win. The anglers fished the Jacksonville area exclusively with Berkley Gulp! jerkbaits and swimbaits.
“Berkley Gulp! has always worked for us,” said Jewett. “We have had good success with them and try not to change it. We are looking forward to the IFA Pro-Am in Jacksonville next month.”
The anglers took home a new, fully-rigged Ranger boat powered by a Yamaha outboard valued at $25,995, along with an additional $2,415 in Anglers Advantage cash.
Jesse Rain and Luis Jaramillo, both of Jacksonville, Florida, improved on their tenth-place finish at the IFA Redfish event at Titusville, Florida, earlier this year with a good showing of 12.46 pounds at Jacksonville. The anglers faced tough conditions and an even tougher bite.
“We only had two bites all day, but they were the right ones,” said Rain. “We are very excited to have done so well and look forward to the championship in Louisiana.”
Tom Riley and Chris Kellum weighed in 12.32 pounds of redfish to take home the $1,241 third-place prize. The team took advantage of the Anglers Advantage cash contingency program and added $1,207 to their winnings for the day.
