The roster for the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Championship in Spain this September just filled out a little more on Day 6 of the USA Shooting National Championships for Rifle/Pistol.
Members to the Junior Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol Team were named as medals were handed out to the top finishers in the event. National Champion Alex Chichkov (Temple Terrace, Florida) will be joined in Spain by Brian Kim (Los Angeles, California) and Tony Chung (Diamond Bar, California). Chichkov had already earned his way to Spain when he finished second in the Junior Men’s Air Pistol event.
A National Champion title was also awarded today in the Open division of Men’s Rapid Fire Pistol with two-time Olympian Keith Sanderson (Colorado Springs, Colorado) claiming the top spot. Sanderson also tied his National Record in Qualification today with a score of 591. Five-time Olympian Emil Milev (Temple Terrace, Florida) won the silver and now a new addition to the National Team, Anatoly Pikman (Short Hills, N.J.), won the bronze.
Pikman was a member of the National Team 15 years ago, first representing the U.S. in Rapid Fire Pistol in the World Cup in Atlanta in 1999. He also shot in the same sports club, Dynamo, in the Soviet Union with Pistol National Team coach Sergey Luzov when he was 17 years old.
Open division team members in Rapid Fire Pistol for World Championships were determined at a Selection Match earlier this year. Sanderson and Milev will represent the United States in the event along with Brad Balsley (U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit/Uniontown, Pennsylvania).
Men’s Air and Women’s Three-Position Rifle action started today with titles and Junior World Championship team berths to be awarded tomorrow.
Leading Men’s Air Rifle overall currently is defending National Champion Connor Davis (Shelbyville, Kentucky), followed by Dempster Christenson (Sioux Falls, South Dakota) and Ryan Anderson (Great Falls, Virginia) who are currently separated by .1 points. Bryant Wallizer (Little Orleans, Maryland) sits just two points behind Anderson and is currently in fourth place.
On the Women’s Three-Position Rifle side, Amy Sowash (Richmond, Kentucky) is currently leading overall with 589 points, which ties her National Record she set on the same range at World Cup USA earlier this year. Amanda Furrer (Spokane, Washington) is currently in second place and Junior Air Rifle National Champion Sonya May (Rockland, Maryland) is in third.
