Seeger Wins Walmart Bass Fishing League Buckeye Division Event on Indian Lake

Cody Seeger of Lewistown, Ohio, weighed a two-day total of nine bass totaling 15 pounds, 3 ounces to win the Walmart Bass Fishing League Buckeye Division super tournament on Indian Lake Sunday. For his victory, Seeger earned $5,270.

“I practiced on Friday and keyed in on a grass bite with light tackle,” said Seeger, who finished the season ranked second in the Buckeye Division Angler of the Year race. “On Saturday, I could do no wrong. I had 17 keepers and caught fish all day long.

“Sunday, there was a cold front and it shut my fish down,” Seeger explained. “I caught three keepers fairly quickly and then picked up one more around 2 p.m. on a Yamamoto Senko. I knew the fish were in the grass, I just had to get them to bite.”

Seeger said he fished grass flats and targeted the deeper edges where the bottom dropped from 1 to 6 feet. He caught almost all of his fish on a Texas-rigged 7-inch Blue Fleck-colored Berkley Power Worm with a 1/16-ounce sinker.

“I had talked to more than half the field on the water on the final day, so I knew it was tough,” said Seeger. “I couldn’t have been mad, even if I hadn’t won. I fished clean and capitalized on every bite all weekend.”

The top 40 boaters and 40 co-anglers based on point standings will qualify for the Oct. 16-18 Regional Championship on Kentucky Lake in Gilbertsville, Ky. Boaters will compete for a top award of a Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard and a Chevy Silverado, while co-anglers will fish for a new Ranger Z518C with a 200-horsepower Evinrude or Mercury outboard.

The BFL is a 24-division circuit devoted to weekend anglers, with 120 tournaments throughout the season, five in each division. The top 40 boaters and co-anglers from each division qualify for a regional tournament and compete to finish in the top six, which then qualifies them for one of the longest-running championships in all of competitive bass fishing – the Walmart BFL All-American presented by Chevy. Top winners in the BFL can move up to the Rayovac FLW Series or even the Walmart FLW Tour.
