Archie Manning and Joe Nichols Headline Friday Evening Event at the SCI Hunters’ Convention

Archie Manning, known for his athletic achievements, and country music star Joe Nichols will be entertaining attendees at the Friday evening event at the SCI’s Hunters’ Convention on February 6, 2015.

When people think of Archie Manning, they think football. But Manning’s appeal transcends his athletic achievements. He was selected Father of the Year by the National Father’s Day Council. He currently serves in public relations and consulting capacities for several local, regional and national companies, including Gatorade, Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year, DirecTV and Zurich. For 25 years he hosted four Archie Manning Cystic Fibrosis benefit golf tournaments in Louisiana and Mississippi and he is active in a wide variety of charitable and civic causes.

“Archie Manning has inspired many by his actions both on and off the field,” says Libby Grimes, Director SCI Convention & Event Planning. “His passion and drive for helping others, as well as his stories of how he became one of the most well-regarded retired athletes are sure to entertain those in attendance.”

Joe Nichols, known for his true country music with songs like “Sunny and 75” and “Gimme That Girl” will also be entertaining members Friday evening. “I am true to traditional country music and always will be. I have bled and sweat and cried country music my entire life,” stated Nichols.

Those attending the 2015 annual SCI Hunters’ Convention, February 4-7, at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino, will be entertained by widely-known musicians and celebrities. Each evening of the four-day show, dinners will be highlighted by groups or speakers known worldwide. Tickets to the dinners are limited so anyone interested needs to register to attend the Convention and book tickets for the evening events. Register here: https://www.showsci.com/register/.

Protecting hunters’ rights and promoting wildlife conservation, SCI’s two areas of focus, historically has been the interest of hundreds of individuals long before SCI was established. But how did SCI as an organization begin?

Forty years ago, there were many safari clubs across the country made up of local, unaffiliated groups of hunters. One such was Safari Club of Los Angeles, which was formed in April 1971 by forty-seven individuals. In early 1972, an out-of-towner from a similar club in Chicago attended one of the monthly Wednesday night meetings, and it was decided that the L.A. club should attempt to combine with the one in Chicago to make it an affiliated chapter. The founder of Safari Club of Los Angeles, C.J. McElroy, went to the Windy City and instituted the new chapter.

Eleven months after the formation of Safari Club of Los Angeles, on March 9, 1972, the name was changed officially to Safari Club International. SCI continued to reach out to other independent safari clubs throughout the United States in an effort to combine them into a single overall organization.

Today, interest in SCI’s two primary missions has grown a worldwide network. Subsequent involvement and promotion of these missions is rooted in each of our 55,000 members, supported through each of our 190 membership chapters found across the globe, and put into action by government representatives and personnel both nationally and internationally.

In this way, we can encourage an appreciation for nature and wildlife so that conservation efforts remain strong, while also fighting to protect our rich hunting heritage. Big changes can be achieved through the endeavors of many who are united in a mission – the mission of Safari Club International.
