It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce, the Club’s Executive Secretary, Kevin Hisey, lost his nine-month battle with cancer Sunday, February 15, 2015. Kevin loved the Pope & Young Club with all of his heart and was dedicated to the Club through his last days.
Kevin Daniel Hisey, 44, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 15, 2015, at his home near Chatfield, after a nine month battle with cancer. Born April 3, 1970, to Glenn and Marlene (Jefferis) Hisey. Kevin graduated valedictorian of Chosen Valley High School, class of 1988, and studied Mathematics and Engineering at U of M Morris and U of M Twin Cities.
Kevin was currently employed at the Pope & Young Club headquartered in Chatfield. He was the Executive Secretary for the last 15 years, the longest in the Club’s history.
As a passionate bowhunter and conservationist, Kevin was dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of bowhunting, and promoting the ethics of fair chase.
Kevin joined the Pope & Young Club in 1985, became a Regular Member in 1999, and a Senior Member in 2002. He was an Official Measurer from 1988 to present and a Panel Judge at 11 bienniums. As a Measurer certification Instructor, he trained hundreds of official measurers in annual workshops.
Kevin was co-editor for three of the Club’s record books and was instrumental in editing and publishing the 4th, 5th and 7th Editions of Bowhunting Big Game Records of North America. Kevin also helped produce the two most recent versions of the Pope and Young Club Measurer’s Manual, A Traditional Journey; Bowhunting Records of North American Whitetail Deer, 3rd Edition and The Traditional Journey Continues.
Kevin attended the 2005 White House Conference on Cooperative Conservation and the 2008 White House Conference on Wildlife Policy. He also developed the strategic plan and oversaw the construction of the Pope and Young Club/St. Charles Museum of Bowhunting. Kevin was a Professional Member of the Boone & Crockett Club and an Official Measurer from 1994 to present, a member of the Rochester Archery Club and MN Bowhunters, Inc.
“This is such a great loss for his family and for the Club,” says Jim Willems, President of the Pope & Young Club. “Everywhere you look around the Pope & Young Club, you see Kevin’s dedication and passion… He did a such great job for the Club and he will be dearly missed by us all.”
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer memorials to the Elizabeth Hisey and Brayden Irish College Fund at the Root River State Bank – www.rrsbchatfield.com.
