I’m what you might call a mixed breed. My passions are hunting, trapping and tracking. Some folks would see me as a rough neck good ol’ boy, but I prefer to call myself an old fashioned woodsman. Now the other side of me is a clean-cut business man born in the digital age.

So what do you think happens when you hand me a “survival hunting” game by Cabela’s and a Wii controller? Well, I can tell you that I’m not only critical of the storyline and the realism of the hunting scenarios but also the quality of the gaming experience.

Cabela’s Survival: Shadows of Katmai is a game that has a pretty cool storyline about a bush pilot that goes down in the remote wilderness of Alaska. Now I’m lucky because I picked up the game via a kit that included the Wii Top Shot Elite gun. This makes playing the game a lot fun because it’s way more realistic.

The following information is my Trusted Review of Cabela’s Survival: Shadows of Katmai after playing the game this fall.

  1. While I enjoyed the game I felt there could have been a lot more done with it.  I have the Cabels 2011 Dangerious Hunts and it had a lot more levels to it.  Shadows seemed way to short as I beat it after 3 evenings of playing maybe 10 hours total playing time and I am not a gamer.  I also thought the graphics were lacking in the galleries section not the quality of the 2011 edition.  This is a fun game and worth the 30 bucks I paid for it but it felt as if not a lot of thought was put into it and that they could have done so much more to enhance it.  Great story line over all I would recommend it if you just want a lazy day but if you are looking for a challenge and a game that is going to take you some time to complete this is not the game.  I am now going to go back and try it on more difficult settings and see if that changes my perception.
