Hunting Exotics with the Burris Veracity Riflescope

In this review, I’m going to break down the Burris Veracity 4-20 X 50mm rifle scope I used on a recent exotic hunt in Southwest Texas.

Texas is not just a freedom loving patriotic state where the locals wear cowboy boots and work ranches. The State offers incredible opportunities to see domestic animals that roam free as well as an incredible amount of exotic game that has been brought in and thrives in the moderate climate of the Lone Star State. What’s especially amazing is that you can run a no fence hunt in many parts of Texas for exotic game because the sheer size of the ranch is so large, the animals will never leave. When a ranch is over 100,000 acres, the worry of exotic game heading for the hills is less realistic.

Texas truly has become a home away from home for me and I often find myself there 3 or 4 times a year hunting something new and exciting. On a recent hunt with TO Outfitter I found myself doing just that. I was hunting for scimitar horned oryx and dall sheep, two very cool animals that have not crossed my path before. For this hunt I was using a handful of products that were new to me, including my scope. The rifle optic I used on this hunt was the Burris Veracity 4-20X50mm rifle scope.

We’ve been partnered up with Burris in 2022 using their rifle scopes, spotters, and binoculars exclusively on our hunts and I have been really happy with what I’ve seen so for. The Burris Veracity 4-20X50mm rifle scope was set to be my optic of choice for my ill fated caribou hunt in Alaska this year. It was ill fated because I made it all the way to Fairbanks only to receive a call from my wife 3 hours after landing that she was very sick and I needed to come home to take care of the kids. This trip to Texas was a bit of redemption for me to get out in the field and test out the Burris Veracity 4-20X50mm rifle scope.

The Burris Veracity 4-20X50mm rifle scope and the entire Veracity line of riflescopes were built to be multipurpose tools for the modern shooter. Today, many shooters who like to sling lead down range at long distances also enjoy hunting and using their skills in a practical setting. It is not uncommon for those precision shooters to live in areas where a common shot at game is 300+ yards and so, a cross functional scope becomes very appealing.

The Burris Veracity 4-20X50mm rifle scope is a front focal plane scope that features their Ballistic Plex E1™ FFP Varmint reticle. If you aren’t familiar with what a first/front focal plane scope offers it’s really simple. As you increase the magnification of your optic,  your reticle size also increases. The benefit to this is that your hash mark’s unit of measurement will remain constant regardless of the magnification setting. As longer range hunting has grown in popularity, so has the use of FFP scopes by those hunters.

If you are a more advanced shooter, you can use your scope alone to measure both animal size and distance by using the hashmarks of your reticle. The reticle features hash marks for 10mph holdovers up to 40mph and elevation holdovers out to 700 yards. The Burris Veracity 4-20X50mm rifle scope can also be purchased with low pro or high turrets and features multi-turn target knobs which offer up to 15 MOA of adjustment per rotation. When you pair that with the high-grade optical glass, Hi-Lume coating, and 50mm objective you have a scope that is a high performer at distance in almost any light.

When it comes time to upgrade your rifle scope there are a lot of factors to consider from price to performance and I think Burris has something for everyone. While I have really enjoyed using the Veracity on my hunts this fall I’ve also had hands on time with their Signature HD line and the incredibly cool and feature rich Eliminator Laserscope. No matter your budget or needs, Burris is sure to have a scope that will be a great companion on your next hunt.
