The Savage Arms 110 High Country is still one of my favorite factory built hunting rifles

Let’s take a look at one of my favorite products that Savage Arms has released in the last 10 years, the 110 High Country.

When it comes to firearms, you don’t always get the opportunity to truly put your rifle to the test. Whether you are a Midwest hunter who only gets a chance to hunt once a year or a die hard enthusiast who finds any excuse to travel for a hunt, stretching out your long gun to really understand its full potential is a must. I know, it can be difficult to find the time when you have a safe full of firearms that also want your attention, but most of those won’t be with you when you spot that 8 point.

If you aren’t lucky enough to live in a State like Utah or Nevada with vast open spaces perfect for long range precision shooting, you sometimes need to dig deep and search for a range with more than 100 yards. I say this because should you ever need to take a shot at distance, you want to have at least some experience doing so. With that said, many Midwesterners may never take a shot over 100 yards and that is ok.

No matter the location of your hunt, distance to target, or atmospheric conditions; your success is 100% dependent on what you have done leading up to pulling the trigger. With practice, you are not only getting to know yourself, you are getting to know your equipment. Things such as recoil management, the operation of your rifle’s action, setting up your shot, and much more will become second nature if you spend enough time in the offseason slinging lead down range.

Our 110 High Country journey began a couple years ago when the rifle was used during a 3 day precision rifle course in Utah. We had 3 shooters on that trip, 2 of which used the Savage MSR Precision chambered in 6mm Creedmoor and the 3rd was using the 110 High Country chambered in 300 WinMag. Not only did the 110 High Country hang with the precision rifles, it often performed slightly better. We witnessed many situations where the high country held tight groups beyond 800 yards and also pushed out well beyond 1000 yards. To say the rifle was a tac driver would be an understatement.

Beyond precision rifle duties, our 110 High Country was used in Newfoundland to take a bull moose, Whitetail in both Texas and Michigan, Axis Deer, Mouflan, Black Buck, and more. The rifle time and time again delivered on precision, reliability and durability when and where we needed it. The Savage Arms 110 High Country sits at a very high ranking in our list of off the shelf hunting rifles.

The Savage Arms 110 High Country ringing steel beyond 1,000 Yards

When Savage Arms launched the 110 High Country in 2019, they had a vision and purpose. They were delivering a rifle that hunters could use in any situation, climate, or condition. Savage Arms not only incorporated some of their long standing technology, but also some new features that are sure to please. One thing is for certain, today’s hunter not only wants a rifle that performs but, also looks good doing it.

The 110 High Country has some really exceptional visual elemements that not only check the box on looks but also have purpose. One of the first things you will notice about this rifle is the barrel finish. Savage Arms included a factory cerekote finish on it’s spiral-fluted barrel and bolt. The dark bronze finish gives it a custom look while adding additional protection to the action and barrel in harsh weather conditions. When you pair this with the TrueTimber Strata synthetic stock with overmold surfaces, the rifle is a sight to behold.

When I mentioned long standing technology I was speaking to AccuFit and AccuTrigger, which are two of Savage Arm’s greatest strengths in the 110 line of rifles. The AccuFit systems gives shooters from novice to gunsmith the ability to adjust their length of pull and comb height in minutes. The Accutrigger system gives you the same customization in your trigger as well. The end result is a high end looking rifle, perfectly fit to your needs.

  • AccuFit system lets hunters adjust comb height and length-of-pull
