This Strange Device is Meant to Hunt Small Game

What is that? It certainly looks…suggestive. No, it’s probably not what you’re thinking. This handy little device is actually called the Pocket Shot, and its creators hope that it will soon become the next big thing in the world of hunting small game. While the Pocket Shot may seem harmless at first, it actually works on the same principle as slingshots. Simply insert a steel slug into the the back of the device, pull back on the stretch latex launcher, and let go. The device can even fire arrows with the attachment of a whisker biscuit cap.

“The Pocket Shot is the evolution of the slingshot,” wrote the designers on their website. “Our patented circular design allows users to load and shoot different projectiles at two to three times the rate of a regular slingshot. Perfect for hunters and recreational use as its tiny size allows you to keep it in your pocket, tackle box, or backpack while storing ammo in its watertight compartment. Up to 350 feet per second, the Pocket Shot is not a toy.”

You can see a demonstration below:

Touted as possibly the world’s first circular slingshot, the Pocket Shot does seem to be handy for a number of uses. But is it powerful enough to take small game, or is it little more than a toy? Also, would same laws that govern hunting with a slingshot—or in some cases, slingbows—also apply for the Pocket Shot? Is it even accurate?

According to the creators of the Pocket Shot, the device is considered a slingshot-type weapon but customers should still consult local laws before using it. The Pocket Shot also garnered some attention from slingshot aficionados after Joerg Sprave, a popular slingshot builder and YouTuber, gave it a favorable review.

“It has a surprising amount of power,” he commented while testing the weapon.

You can watch Sprave’s review below:

Think this is something you’ll want to try out? The Pocket Shot retails for about $25 without ammunition, which you can buy elsewhere or from the same online store on their website. It is recommended that safety glasses be worn while using the weapon.
