Video: Are You Splitting Wood Wrong?

Have you been splitting wood wrong all your life? Well, it’s doubtful, but CrazyRussianHacker recently shared a video on his method of cutting firewood. Now before it gets heated up in here, yes you split firewood with a maul, not an axe, and yes his take on the traditional upright method is pretty atrocious. Whether it’s for effect or not, this Russian outdoorsman’s attempt at splitting a log the “traditional way” is pretty hard to watch.

That being said, splitting logs on their side could also offer a number of advantages, especially for smaller pieces. Your thoughts?
