Using Turkey Decoys and Deer Decoys on Hard Ground
Ed Johnson 04.23.11
Turkey and deer decoys can be a frustrating pain when you are trying to push a plastic decoy stake into hard rocky ground. Try using ¼ in to ½ inch rebar stakes, cut to 16 to 18 inches with one end sharpened on a grinder. Take a reasonably sized hammer to pound the stake in the ground. Simply set your turkey decoy or deer decoy down over the stake.
If you are going to hunt the spot the next day or so, leave the stakes in the ground. It makes for a quieter and quicker set up for your turkey or deer decoy the next day Always remove the stakes after you are finished hunting that location. One thing about it, they never break!
