Yamaha Outdoors Tip of the Week: Ride to Fish

Riding your Yamaha ATV or Side-by-Side to remote fishing locations is a way to beat the crowds this summer.

  1. Before plotting your next move to a cool angling hole during these hot days first check regulations related to four-wheeler access.
  2. Next contact state fish and game biologists to get a fix on what species you might encounter on waters managed by the state.
  3. After this, to ride more lightly, pack together a tackle kit with bait hooks, lures for trout, bass and other species, as well as spools of fishing line and other gear items.
  4. Mapping your riding and fishing route is fun and should include stops at places where fish hold during summer months. These locations include plunge pools in mountain streams, beaver dams where water is “managed” by these animals, as well as shady lake bays and even waters you don’t find on your GPS unit or old maps.
  5. Catch-and-release is best done by reeling the fish to hand fast and releasing gently.
