Breakfast Doesn’t Have To Be Boring in the Apocalypse – Freeze Dried Breakfast Idea

Though the title is funny, I have used freeze dried foods in all kinds of situations. I took a #10 can freeze dried meal with us RV camping once. It was so convenient and delicious! I even cracked open some #10 cans to make a meal at home.

It’s always a good idea to try out your emergency food before storing it on the shelf. If anything, you can always re-package any leftovers into a mylar bag with an oxygen absorber.

A typical breakfast around here is eggs and sausage. So I wanted to try the freeze dried version of that before committing it to our long term food storage.

I also got some freeze dried cheese to go on top of…well, everything. Because cheese is life.

Nutristore has some amazing products and they’re so good, too! The instructions on the #10 cans are easy to follow and straight to the point.

Making a good meal from freeze dried ingredients is so easy.

Let’s break it down.

We have a #10 can of:

  • Sausage
  • Shredded cheese
  • Eggs

Everything should be rehydrated first.

How to rehydrate freeze dried cheese:

There are two ways to rehydrate freeze dried cheesse. The first way is to follow the directions on the back of the can by pouring in the appropriate amount of water to the appropriate amount of cheese, then letting it sit for about 10 mins.

The other way is to lay out the freeze dried cheese flat on a paper towel and spray it with water with a spray bottle and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes.

How to rehydrate freeze dried sausage:

Place sausage crumbles into warm water and let soak for about 10 minutes, be sure to stir it up every couple of minutes.

How to rehydrate freeze dried eggs:

Pour powdered eggs into the right amount of water, whisk up and it’ll be ready to use.

How to make a meal from these freeze dried ingredients:

Scramble up the powdered eggs that you just rehydrated.

Heat up the sausage in a pan, microwave or other heating device.

Melt the rehydrated shredded cheese over the warm eggs and/or sausage.

Eat it!

These freeze dried options can easily be placed into a mylar bag or ziploc and taken out into the field to be rehydrated and eaten there. They’re lightweight and easy to cram into just about any space. Very easy to rehydrate and eat. Very filling and tasty! Though I will say, you may want a couple packets of ketchup or siracha sauce just to flavor it up a little bit more.

Other than that, I love Nutristore Freeze Dried Food. Time and again they have proved their quality. Their prices are extremely reasonable, too!

What else would you make with these ingredients?
