Become a lighthouse keeper in the Shine on Me!: Lighthouse Camp for children entering grades 2 – 3 beginning June 27 – July 1 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Campers explore the Drum Point, Cove Point, and Piney Point Lighthouses, build toy boats and make a model lighthouse. They hear and act out stories of lighthouse keepers and their families and learn what life was like for the children who lived in a lighthouse during the 19th century. Families are invited to come along for a camper-led lighthouse tour and cruise aboard the Wm. B. Tennison on the last day of camp. The fee is $130.00/CMMS members $115.00.

Summer time is for exploring the great outdoors, and what better way to do that than in the four-day Marsh Madness Camp for children entering grades 3 – 4, July 5 – 9 from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Designed for children who enjoy hands-on, in-the-mud exploration, they will dissect owl pellets to figure out what the owl ate, and examine footprints and other clues in the marsh to discover the animals that live there. The camp includes a fieldtrip to a nature center where they will learn to decipher the codes of different animals, and a cruise on the William B. Tennison. The fee is $110.00/CMMS members $90.00.

For youngsters who love to sing and have a sense of rhythm, consider Music by the Bay, August 1 – 5 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Children entering grades 1 – 2 will explore the musical world of the Chesapeake Bay through songs, dances, stories, and crafts. Skim over the water like pelicans scooping up fish and dance like fiddler crabs in the sand to the Fiddler Crab Quadrille. Learn about the sounds of instruments like the flute, viola and harp, and play to the beat of the music with instruments like rhythm sticks and shakers. Designed to help parents use music with their children, each day ends with family time to share, sing, and dance. This camp is run by guest certified instructor Jennifer Anderson. The fee is $115.00/CMMS members $100.00. There is an additional $25 materials fee for a take-home music kit.
