Flooding Forces Fishing Access Site Closures On Jefferson, Gallatin, Missouri, Big Hole And Ruby Rivers

   06.14.11

BOZEMAN-Several Fishing Access Sites in southwestern Montana are closed due to flooding and resulting unsafe conditions.

Jefferson River sites impacted by high water include Kountz Bridge, Mayflower Bridge, Cardwell Bridge, Sappington Bridge, Williams’ Bridge, and Drouillard. “Flowing water in the fishing access sites has created a hazardous situation for visitors,” said Todd Garrett, the FAS manager for Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks in Bozeman. “We’ve closed several sites and ask visitors to avoid these areas until water levels allow for reopening.”

Multiple Missouri River sites are also closed, including Fairweather and York’s Islands. Erwin Bridge, on the Gallatin River near Belgrade, remains closed and Pennington Bridge on the Big Hole River is closed. Ruby River sites Alder Bridge, Ruby Island, and Silver Springs Bridge are closed due to flooding, and Ruby Dam FAS remains closed for a dam improvement project.

Additional closures may be issued and recreationists should anticipate river access closures during this extreme high water; FWP urges everyone to use caution near high water.
